Embody Your Muse - Lisa Congdon

I have followed San Francisco artist, Lisa Congdon, for some time now, and am always captivated by her use of colour and patterns.  She has a style that definitely sets her apart from other artists.

Along with recently authoring “Art, Inc.: The Essential Guide for Building Your Career as an Artist”,  Lisa is partnering with CreativeLive September 30 - October 1 to teach "Becoming A Working Artist".  The class is free to watch while it's live, and you have the option to purchase it for $79 throughout the class to have on-demand access to it any time.  What an opportunity!

Creative Spotlight: Brooke Waggoner

Embody Your Muse - Brooke Waggoner

My guys and I met Brooke Waggoner at Grimey’s New & Preloved Music a few years ago during a Record Store Day event, and she became an instant favourite.  She has such a delicate voice which perfectly overlays her intricate piano.  I personally love all her music, but “Rumble” has been my definite Creative battle cry at times.

Brooke will be part of The Great Aspirations of Sun Conductor at Old Made Good in Nashville on Saturday, September 20 at 7pm.  What a cool experience.  I am so happy to introduce Embody Your Muse readers to Brooke!

Creative Spotlight: Nicole Brandt

Lucent Vignette Photography - Nicole Brandt

As you will see from Nicole’s feature, she is passionate about helping people...making a difference.  Nicole describes herself as a writer, advocate, collaborator, traveller, story-teller, and social artist.  I definitely feel that those words all fit her well.  She really started on this path as a senior in high school, and naturally moved forward from there.  Nicole has a goal of changing the stigma around homelessness, and hosts Community Art Days twice a year (November and March) to help facilitate that change.  These Days are a way for volunteers and homeless artists to create together, rather than homeless artists solely being provided something.  Volunteers work alongside homeless artists in music, theatre, creative writing, and visual art (collaborative art) projects, and come away with more of an appreciation for each other’s place in life.  We have different experiences that inform our stories in unique ways, but deep down, we are all the same.  Yes, Nicole is definitely a social artist.

Nicole started the Poverty and the Arts programs in 2011, and currently connects with Turnip Green Creative Reuse to provide homeless artists with free access to a studio.  When artists sell their work, 75% of the proceeds go to the artist, and 25% to the studio.  In providing this value to the artists, Nicole not only gives them a way to be creative, but also help themselves.  She is currently looking into ways to help the artists further by providing a way to sell their works online.  Also, in November, there will again be an option to sponsor new and returning artists in the Adopt a Homeless Artist program!

I was introduced to Lika Brutyan’s work while working on another blog post on Embody Your Muse - Creative Spotlight:  Masha D’yans!  Lika took Masha’s feature photo, and I fell in love immediately with her imagination and creativity.

Lika has a careful, trained eye for photography - coupled with a unique style - that definitely shows in her photos.  I have a great appreciation for her work, and am rather excited to share it with you!

I was introduced to Dan Lavender's work by a sister of mine recently, and knew immediately that I wanted to feature him.  I have a great appreciation for creativity, and it definitely shows in Dan's ventriloquist figures.  They have such character!

I am so grateful Dan agreed to be featured - prepare to be inspired.  You are in for a real treat!
