As of yesterday (March 23), my husband, Dole, and I have been married twenty years. Twenty years. I asked our teenagers if they could believe it, and Amrith said "Yes, and you just go so well together." Still...twenty years. I'm taking it in still, if you can't tell.
We celebrated in Chattanooga, TN over the weekend together - we were there photographing a social justice dance performance, anyway - and then with our teens on our actual anniversary. So, we got to do all the things we love connected to this anniversary...spend time together/with our children, travel, cook and eat amazing food, photograph, and delve into culture.
Since it was our 20th anniversary, I thought I'd share some images from our celebrations.
This image is delightfully vague, since we are in the midst of editing photos from Blue Moves Modern Dance Company's performance, Illuminated Beings: An Evening of Social Justice Dances! But, the colours and performance were amazing. This piece is a moving one. If you have a chance to see it some time, by all means, do.
Inspired by my uncle's successful use of Airbnb's service, we decided to stay at an Airbnb space in Chattanooga, near Barking Legs Theatre (where we photographed). We had a lovely time.
As for Barking Legs Theatre...what a cool space. We ended up going back there the next afternoon to see Annie and the Hot Club before heading home.
The delicious whiskey flight from Tennessee Stillhouse. What a neat experience. And, the smells in that distillery. Amazing. We will definitely visit again sometime.
See Dole's closed eyes while taking in the aroma? Yes, he definitely enjoyed the tour and tasting at Tennessee Stillhouse.
The Tennessee Stillhouse had a local artist utilize their used whiskey barrels around the bar and storefront. Gorgeous...
Dole and I purchased this Italian terracotta bakeware specifically for our anniversary. Inspired by our breakfast at The Farmer's Daughter in Chattanooga over the weekend, he made strata in those containers.
The finished product. Oh, my glorious word.
Ah, yes...and, there were mimosas...a favorite around here. We made them with Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, orange juice, and cherries that Dole has been soaking in gin.
Rain made raspberry, blueberry, and cream cheese stuffed french toast rolls. They were made for lunch, and were really like having dessert. So tasty.
I made Garlic Herb Tomato Goat Cheese Dip, thanks to the Cookie Rookie (who I found on Pinterest...of course), and served it with Dole's ever-delicious bread. That dip is delicious. I found a couple Bordeaux wine glasses I loved at a thrift store, and purchased a 2012 red Bordeaux wine by Chateau Borie de Noaillan to have with them on our anniversary. We loved it all.
And, this image... This image is simply because I love the red from the wine...
I will now leave you with multiple images of the cake I made to celebrate - Chocolate Guinness Cake from Nigella Lawson. Feast your eyes...
This cake is so dense...
And, topped with frosting to look like the foam on a pint of Guinness...
So perfect.
So, there you have it - images from our time in Chattanooga and time with family. It was all perfect. As for what number is the big one to me? 23. I am a numbers person, so being married on the 23rd for 23 years will be the big one. Yes, I can be an odd one...and he loves me for it. Hehe. And, I love him.
