Creative Spotlight: Melanie Oliva

I connected with Melanie Oliva both through the Nashville Creative Group started by Beth Inglish, and Melanie's page, Inspiration Pollination (an environmental activism project) on Facebook. Melanie grew up in Nashville, has lived in Chicago and Amsterdam, and is currently living in Miami, where she works as a fine artist.

Melanie's newest project is The Artful Activist (there is a Facebook page as well), a " blog where artists, activists and gallerists can express their views on social and environmental issues."  I hope you will check it out. We need these spaces now, more than ever (if that's possible). I can definitely say that I am grateful for such spaces.

Embody Your Muse Creative Spotlight:  Joseph Heckle

I'm not sure how many artists I've met through the Nashville Creative Group (started by Beth Inglish), but I am positive it is quite a few.  I definitely met Joseph Heckle through the group, and have enjoyed watching him evolve as an artist.

As you will experience here,  Joseph's paintings and music have such depth.  So does his mind.  I love interviewing creatives, and reading through their q&a's...and every so often, I will get a set I especially enjoy.  Joseph's would be one of those.  I hope you will take the time to enjoy as well.

I met Shane Miller online through the Nashville Creative Group, led by Beth Inglish, and had the pleasure of meeting him in person more recently at the Nashville First Saturday Art Crawl.  I hope you might be able to see his work in person at some point...it almost seems to glow (especially his encaustic pieces).

Shane begins his Artist Statement with "Nos•tal•gia: A sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations."  And, I think this is so much of what draws me into his work.  For me, his pieces have a meditative quality, which I am ever finding in my own photographic work.  So, please, take time to really take in Shane's feature.

Creative Spotlight: Beth Inglish

Beth Inglish - Ashley Hylbert

Beth Inglish - Ashley Hylbert

Beth Inglish is a painter, writer, and musician from Nashville, TN.  She is passionate about the art scene in Nashville - so passionate, that she started the Nashville Creative Group (which is how we came to meet).  The group is over 1,000 members, very community-oriented, and meets monthly.

Beth's current work is a journey into her own healing.  Throughout the process, she was drawn to the work of Basquiat, Munch, and Kahlo , because of the powerful stories that came through in their work.  The many lines in her work signify action and boundaries, leading her from the past and present; and the flow of blue, especially, symbolizes faith and truth.  Her hope is that you, the viewer, are able to connect with her story, and have the opportunity to heal as well!
